Hackleburg Mayor Details Plans For Tornado Relief Grant

Towns across the state are still rebuilding after a deadly tornado outbreak last year.

It?s a long term project , but Wednesday, Governor Robert Bentley announced some financial help to keep the tornado relief efforts active.

The town that will receive the largest grant is one of the towns, hardest hit: Hackleburg.

?The recovery process is very slow but the scars from the storm are still easy to see,? said Hackleburg Mayor, Whitey Cochran.

The scars blemish the landscape of a small community still fighting to re-build.

However with more than $4.5 million dollars promised to Hackleburg through grants and low-interest loans the town?s mayor hopes restoration will quickly fade to the forefront.

?We have great hope and determination, we have strong people and we are committed to this town,? said Cochran.

The governor says the small town will have the money in hand as early as March.

?Every time I come, I see new progress. New houses, new buildings going up,? said Governor Bentley.

The Hackleburg mayor already has a long list of repairs, including repair infrastructure, demolish damaged buildings and bring in new business.

?People are getting their lives back together, slowly but surely,? said Cochran.

As part of the governor?s announcement, nine cities and counties all across the state will split $15.8 million dollars to use in tornado disaster relief efforts.

Cordova

DeKalb County

Franklin County

Hackleburg

Marion County

Moulton

Phil Campbell

Tuscaloosa (city)

Tuscaloosa County
