NWS confirms tornado hit Mount Juliet

MOUNT JULIET, Tenn. (AP) -- The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down in Mount Juliet as strong storms moved through the state.

Forecasters examined the damage path of 4.6 miles Wednesday morning and estimated the peak wind speed at 115 mph, qualifying the tornado as an EF-2 twister. The path of damage was about 150 yards wide.

The heaviest damage was in a commercial strip around Lebanon Road and Mount Juliet Road where a warehouse and an automotive business were heavily damaged. There was light to moderate structural damage to other buildings in the neighborhood.

Many homes sustained damage and there was considerable destruction of outbuildings, fences and lighting at the city ball park. Dozens of trees were blown down.

No serious injuries were reported.
