POINTE Performing Arts Center invites audiences to share the lives of the Boys Next Door!

Orlando, FL ? Fantasyland Theatrical Productions at the POINTE Performing Arts Center (Ppac) is excited to bring you an entertaining and moving glimpse inside the life of the mentally challenged Boys Next Door July 13 to 29, 2012.

Fantasyland Theatrical Productions is pleased to be working in partnership with The Brain Foundation of Florida, Inc., an Orlando-based not-for-profit company that provides quality, permanent and affordable homes with support services for people recovering from serious brain disorders, called Dave?s House. The Brain Foundation of Florida opens doors to transform lives, end homelessness and build better communities throughout the state.?? Audience members will have an opportunity to participate in this worthwhile work by making contributions to support the Foundation?s ?20 Houses by 2020? Campaign.? Donations will be collected before, during, and after each performance.? To learn more about Dave?s Houses, please go to the Foundation?s website:? www.brainfoundationofflorida.org.

Having roommates can be fun, exciting, and at times a little bit troublesome! The four characters all live with disabilities ? Lucien and Norman have intellectual disabilities, Barry is a golf pro living with schizophrenia, Arnold has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder with paranoia, and Jack is the case worker who tries to keep these four loveable personalities in check. The ?boys? share their lives, their hopes, their dreams, their loves, and their often hilarious antics with each other and the audience in a delightful dramatic comedy that reminds us that no matter how ?different? a person may seem, we are all the same on some level.

Director Lowrie Fawley states: ?what drew me the most to this piece is the fact that it raises awareness by allowing us to share in lives that are not all that different from our own. These men may have disabilities, but ultimately it is society that tells us what is normal. To Arnold, Lucien, Norman, and Barry their lives are just as normal as someone without a disability. I instantly fell in love with each of them for their quirks, not in spite of them. I am blessed with an extremely talented cast that has taken a remarkable journey with me to understand these men. We have researched, spoken to, and for several of us worked with or even lived with and loved individuals with disabilities, and our goal was to make these characters as real as the men and women who do live with some form of mental challenge. These are people, not characters. We laugh with them and cry with them, and in doing so we come to understand them.?
